Works fine for me, as long as you dont make the slaves working on the console. To enable this feature prisoners must have 'Force to work' option checked ('Prisoner' tab).

If not Rimfeller, it could be another one of your mods. Mod Prison Labor for Rimworld (v1.0 - 1.4) This mod force prisoners to work. Prison Labor doesnt work with rimfeller if you have that enabled. No discussing pirated versions of the game. The prisoner work zone just prevents normal colonists from working in there. Its a complex overhaul to pawns social interactions, which adds psyche system where each pawns is unique (original 1.0 mod and full legacy description here.
